Recommendation: Get Your Flu Vaccine Early

The National Public Health Center under the Ministry of Health (NVSC) informs that the total rates of influenza, acute upper respiratory tract infections (AURI) and COVID-19 (coronavirus infection) decreased from 827.8 to 819.7 cases per 100 thousand during the week in the country; however, experts at NVSC warn that flu could be a serious health threat and urge the public to get vaccinated against flu without delaying it until morbidity peaks. It is important to remember that it takes about 2 weeks after the flu vaccine for immunity to develop; antibody levels peak between 4 to 6 weeks after the injection.

During week 41 of 2022, the weekly incidence rates of influenza and AURI were higher, whereas the number of cases of COVID-19 was lower compared to the week before.

According to the NVSC, the lowest incidence rates of the diseases were reported in Marijampolė County and the highest in Kaunas County.
During the last two weeks (October 10-23), no individuals were hospitalized with flu in the country.

According to the data from the National Public Health Laboratory, during week 41 of 2022, 12 specimens were collected for detection of influenza virus; however, flu virus was not isolated.

Good hygiene habits will also help reduce the spread of cold and flu viruses: When you cough or sneeze, cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or handkerchief, or use the inside of your elbow. Remember to wash your hands with soap and running water regularly or use a hand sanitizer, avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands. It is recommended to frequently ventilate and wet clean the premises.
