NPHC Conclusion on Course of Outbreak in Tauragė Campsite
Specialists of Tauragė Department of the National Public Health Centre (NPHC), having received the results of the inspection from the State Food and Veterinary Service regarding the children who fell ill at Tauragė district camp, when they were admitted to hospital due to a suspicion of gastroenteritis and colitis, has drawn a conclusion regarding a possible cause of the outbreak.
Following the epidemiological diagnosis of the outbreak of acute enteric infectious disease, taking into account the results of the descriptive epidemiological investigation, the data from the retrospective evaluations and the results of the laboratory tests, and the assessment of hygiene and sanitation carried out by the food business operator MB NAUJOJI PASAGA (located at 1 Tauragės Dvaro g., Taurų k., Tauragė district Municipality), it is assumed that the occurrence and spread of the eight cases of acute enteric infectious disease contracted by the eight camp participants on 8 August 2024, which were epidemiologically interrelated in time and place, could have been influenced by the cross-contamination of the food business operator during the preparation of the dishes, the inadequate description and lack of supervision of the technology used to prepare the dishes, and the inadequate enforcement of the requirements for the staff's hygiene. The lack of personal hygiene skills (hand hygiene) of the children may also have contributed to the spread of the disease.
Epidemiological investigation of the outbreak is completed.
