Incidence Curve Went Down During School Spring Break
The National Public Health Centre under the Ministry of Health (NPHC) informs that last week, the number of reported cases of influenza, acute respiratory infections (ARI) and COVID-19 decreased, and fewer people were hospitalized due to flu.
The total incidence rate over the period of 10-16 April was 571.1 cases/100 000 population compared to 793.6 cases/100 000 population in the previous week (3-9 April). The highest incidence rates were reported in: Šilutė District (980.37 cases/100 000 population); Kėdainiai District (862.40 cases/100 000 population); and Kaunas (859.57 cases/100 000 population). The epidemic level of incidence (more than 1,500 cases/100 000 population) was not reached in any Municipality for 4 consecutive weeks.
In week 15/2023 (April 10-16), 40 people (all of whom children under the age of 17) were hospitalized due to flu in the country. The week before, 74 people were hospitalized, 68 of whom were minors.

According to the data from the National Public Health Laboratory, in week 14/2023, a total of 40 specimens were taken from patients with symptoms of ARI, of which 16 tested positive for type B virus.

According to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), in Europe for week 14/2023, 2,429 of 44,097 specimens taken to determine the influenza virus tested positive for an influenza virus; (69% were type A, and 31% were type B).

NVSC reminds everyone that vaccination against flu is recommended until the very end of the flu season (week 20 of the year).
Over the flu season 2022-2023, 202,080 doses of flu vaccine were distributed among the treatment facilities for vaccination of persons in risk groups. According to the data possessed by NPHC, a total of 190,890 persons belonging to risk groups were vaccinated in September-March (almost 95% of vaccine doses were used).
