From 5 October, Possibility to Get Both Flu Vaccine and COVID-19 Vaccine at the Same Visit

As the cold season begins, the Ministry of Health highlights the importance of maintaining a healthy immune system. From 5 October, everyone has a possibility to get vaccinated against the most widespread infectious diseases – flu and COVID-19 during the same visit. Influenza and updated COVID-19 vaccines are most recommended for those in risk groups. For them both vaccines are free of charge.

"At the beginning of this season, we are well prepared – both vaccines are already in Lithuania and all medical facilities that have ordered the vaccines will receive them by 5 October. We hope that the possibility of simultaneous administration of COVID-19 and influenza vaccines will increase the coverage of vaccination, and it will be much more convenient for the residents to plan a visit to medical institutions. Persons belonging to risk groups are being offered both vaccines free of charge and I encourage them not to delay a visit to a medical institution for vaccination to get the protection against the diseases", –   says Jurgita Grebenkovienė, chancellor of the Ministry of Health.

"Knowing that vaccines against flu and COVID-19 can protect against viral infections, we recommend everyone to get the vaccines, but especially persons at risk. Individuals who do not belong to risk groups may also receive both vaccines at the same visit. As in every cold season of the year, the public is advised to practice non-pharmaceutical measures, i.e., maintaining distances, wearing masks, following hand hygiene , and ventilation of premises", – says Daiva Razmuvienė, chief specialist of the Department for Communicable Diseases Management at NPHC.

The autumn weather creates a favourable environment for the spread of upper respiratory infections, and taking this into account the Ministry of Health highlights the importance of getting vaccinated with both – flu and COVID-19 – vaccines for persons belonging to the risk groups:

- aged 65 and older,
- people with chronic diseases (including children),
- people living in social care and nursing institutions (including child care institutions),
- health care workers,
- pregnant women.

To receive both vaccines, contact the medical institution where the person is registered. COVID-19 vaccine is available at any medical facility and pharmacy. Flu vaccines for persons at risk are free of charge at the medical institution where the person is registered. If you want to get vaccinated at your own expense, you can get the flu vaccine at any medical facility or pharmacy.
