Beginning of Flu Season: Flu Incidence Rates Are Not Increasing Yet
The National Public Health Center under the Ministry of Health (NVSC) informs that the total rates of influenza, acute upper respiratory tract infections (AURI) and COVID-19 (coronavirus infection) in week 43 were lower (722.8 cases per 100,000 population) compared to the week before (819.7 cases per 100,000 population).
The lowest incidence rates in week 43 were observed in Utena County, whereas the highest in Kaunas County.
3 people were hospitalized due to flu.
According to the data from the National Public Health Laboratory, during week 42/ 2022, 67 specimens were collected from patients with AURI, of which three were positive for influenza type A virus (untyped strains), and eight were positive for respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).
In order to protect against flu and other airborne diseases, it is very important to follow hygiene rules: when coughing and sneezing, cover your nose and mouth with a disposable handkerchief (you can cover it with a bent elbow); always wash your hands with soap and water or use hand sanitizer; try not to touch eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands; to clean and ventilate the rooms often with a wet method.
