Conditions for isolation in a home or other place of residence
Conditions required for self-isolation at home or other place of residence:
- a person suspected of being ill must be isolated in a separate apartment / house, on a well isolated other floor of the individual apartment / house with a separate bathroom or in a well-ventilated room (i.e. with windows that open and doors that shut tightly). Family members who have already lived together at the onset of signs of an acute respiratory infection may live together, but healthy individuals must live in another well-ventilated room;
- a person who has been exposed to someone with confirmed COVID-19 (a coronavirus infection) or an exposed person, when returning from a foreign state, must be isolated in a separate apartment / house on a well-isolated other floor of an individual apartment / house with a separate bathroom. If the following conditions are not possible, the exposed person may be isolated in a separate, well-ventilated room (i.e. with windows that open and doors that shut tightly):
- non-exposed persons may live with an exposed to COVID-19 (coronavirus infection) person if they agree to live together. In this case, exposed and non-exposed persons must live in separate, well-ventilated rooms, restricting movement within the home and reducing sharing of common space;
- persons exposed to COVID-19 returning from a foreign country may live in the same house / apartment with non-traveling family members or other persons, if they agree to live together. In this case, travelers and non-travelers must live in separate, well-ventilated rooms, restricting movement in the home, and reducing sharing of common space.
In exceptional cases, in agreement with the NPHC, persons who had been exposed to others with confirmed COVID-19 (coronavirus infection) who lived with the patient before the COVID-19 (coronavirus infection) was diagnosed, may live in the same apartment / house as the sick one, provided that the patient or persons who have resided together refuse to be isolated in another place of residence and agree to live together. In this case, the exposed persons and the patient:
• must self- isolate in separate, well-ventilated rooms;
• must restrict movement in the home and reduce the sharing of common space, make sure that common areas (e.g. kitchen, bathroom) are well ventilated (e.g. keep windows open);
• it is recommended to limit the number of people caring for the sick person. Ideally, the patient should be cared for by individuals in good health and free of chronic diseases;
• The sick person, if possible, is recommended to use a separate sanitary facility.
• The sick person must eat in his own room.
Family members living with the patient are exposed persons who are required to self-isolate for 10 days after the last day of exposure.
● Individuals with a positive PCR test in a pool of nasal swab specimens and individuals who have been exposed to them are required to self-isolate as those having been exposed to someone with COVID-19 (coronavirus infection).
