NPHC Investigates Odour Complaints in Klaipėda

The National Public Health Centre (NPHC) has recently been receiving and investigating complaints from residents in various parts of Lithuania about odours in their living environments, potentially stemming from economic activities.

In response to complaints from residents in the southern part of Klaipėda regarding unpleasant odours from a company operating in the free economic zone, the Klaipėda Department of NPHC established an odour inspection commission.  On 7 September 2024, during the night time (2-3.30 a.m.), the odour inspection commission, while investigating the applicants' complaint about odours emanating from the activities of UAB Mestilla, located at Kretainio g. 5, Klaipėda, carried out the first stage of odour investigation and confirmed that odours detected in the residential area could be linked to the company’s activities. Consequently, the NPHC decided to proceed with Phase II of the odour inspection measures which involves conducting an operational State inspection to assess whether the company complies with the odour management conditions outlined in its integrated pollution prevention and control permit.
