As Flu Season Is Coming to an End, Incidence Is Decreasing
The National Public Health Centre under the Ministry of Health (NPHC) informs that last week (week 17/2023), the number of reported cases of influenza, acute respiratory infections (ARI) and COVID-19 further decreased. The overall rate of incidence was 522.9 cases/100 000 population compared to 592.9 cases/100 000 population the week before. The lowest incidence was reported in Utena County (309.6 cases/100 000 population), whereas the highest incidence rate was reported in Kaunas County (578.3 cases/100 000 population).
There were also fewer hospitalizations compared to the previous week – a total of 19 persons, 15 of whom belong to the age group of 0-17 years. Not a single individual was treated in an intensive care unit. The week before, 21 people were hospitalized due to flu.

According to the data from the National Public Health Laboratory, in week 16/2023, a total of 35 specimens were taken from patients with symptoms of ARI, of which 6 tested positive for type B virus.

According to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), in Europe for week 16/2023, 1 505 of 34,223 specimens taken to determine the influenza virus tested positive; (28% were type A, and 72% were type B).

NPHC specialists recommend continuing to carefully follow the rules of hand hygiene: constantly ventilate and wet clean the premises, observe cough and sneeze etiquette - cover your mouth and nose with a disposable tissue, and if you feel flu-like symptoms (fever, cough, sore throat, headache, joint pain and etc.), it is advised to contact your family doctor.
