Advice for Residents of Kaišiadorys Regarding Fire at Production Plant
In the event of a fire at UAB "Roda" (20 Girelės st., Kaišiadorys), specialists of Kaišiadorys Division Kaunas Department of the National Public Health Centre under the Ministry of Health warn the residents that the resulting smoke contains many pollutants which can irritate the respiratory tract and can be dangerous to health.
We are warning, therefore, the residents of the old town of Kaišiadorys, especially pregnant women, children, and persons suffering from chronic diseases, and advise them to stay indoors and keep the windows shut.
Recommendations to lower the risk of outdoor air pollution include:
• Pollutants that are outside can easily find their way inside and irritate the respiratory tract, the mucous membrane of the eyes, therefore it is very important that these parts of the body were protected.
• Stay at home and do not open vents, windows or doors; when driving in a car keep the windows fully closed.
• Watch out for the symptoms; if you feel sick (symptoms appear) immediately contact a doctor.
• If you have a shaft water well, keep it tightly closed.
Exposure to polluted air can cause a range of symptoms. These symptoms include:
irritation of eyes, nose and throat; shortness of breath; cough; weakened lung function (especially in people with chronic obstructive lung disease), increased susceptibility to respiratory infections (especially in children), exacerbated allergic respiratory reaction.
