The trends in numbers of SARS-CoV-2 RNA copies detected in cities are observed and correlated with incidence rates in each Municipality separately.

The research method used is not absolute, hence the result may be affected by many factors: wastewater sample collection, transportation, storage, materials used for testing, etc., the impact of which is being analysed.

7-day total incidence per 100,000 inhabitants (in Municipality) – number of new cases of COVID-19 detected in the Municipality where wastewater samples were taken over 7 days.

Number of SARS-CoV-2 virus copies per 100,000 inhabitants per day – the number of SARS-CoV-2 RNA copies detected in a wastewater sample from a sewage treatment plant, normalized to the number of inhabitants connected to the sewage collection system and sewage treatment plant, and the amount of treated wastewater in the sewage treatment plant during sampling. Normalization is required to allow for a comparison of results.
